The Opening Night That Isn’t (Update)

Capitals hockey fan royalty would have gone down to his secret beer portfolio archive to wet the palate before belting a healthy "LETS GO CAPS!" during the home opener. Sadly, he will lock himself in his beer dungeon for the formidable future.

The night was scheduled to be a face off between the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals. One major detail. It isn't happening. As a result, the businesses that typically thrive off of this rush of people are now left with nothing due to the NHL lockout. Here's where you as a hockey fan come in. You were going to go to the game after waiting since the beginning of May for Caps hockey and you were going to be eating and drinking your way back into that routine that you set up around hockey. You were going to be ignoring your family who "don't understand hockey" and you were going to celebrate the maiden voyage of the 2012-13 season by going down to Chinatown. You can still do this and you will do this. With a strong backing from the local bars, there are major deals going on in Chinatown that you should not pass up.

Happy Birthday Karl Alzner!

alznerbday

Today is Karl Alzner's birthday! Drafted fifth overall by the Washington Capitals in 2007, Karl Alzner began his NHL career already something of a quiet star. In junior hockey, he captained two Team Canada gold medal teams in the World Junior Hockey Championship. Not to mention his distinction as both the Western Hockey League’s best player AND the Canadian Hockey League’s top defenseman in 2008 — both junior hockey accolades. Now in the big leagues for a couple of seasons he’s — once again quietly — earned the title of “shutdown defenseman” among the fans and media of the Capitals.

The Opening Night That Isn’t

Verizon-Center-at-night-2011_4

It's October 12th, 2012 and everyone is getting off of work early to head down to Chinatown to see the Capitals play their home and season opener against the New Jersey Devils. Jerseys are dusted off and summer eating can show as the red home jersey is put on in time to hop on the metro to head downtown. It's Hockey Night in Chinatown. Greene Turtle is gearing up for another great season. They have all of the regular's beer mugs washed and waiting for numbers to be called out. It's going to be a good night. Oh wait. It's not hockey night. Hockey is not here. What is here is the need to still support Chinatown restaurants on what was Opening Night that isn't...

Baltimore Hockey Classic Cancelled

baltimore

The first official casualty, other than players flocking to Europe, is the Baltimore Hockey Classic which was scheduled for September 26th. The game was to put the Capitals up against the Columbus Blue Jackets. "Per the Capitals' and Ticketmaster's refund policy, customer who purchased single-game tickets to events that are cancelled will receive a full refund" Yay..... this sucks.
