As we reported last week, Perreault has made it official. He will be playing for HIFK Helsinki as early as today (Friday) according to some sources as his flight touched down early Thursday. Per HIFK Helsinki's team site, Perreault has landed in Finland to start his European tour.

In pre-official news it looks as if Mathieu Perreault will be heading to Finland to play for HIFK Helsinki to become the 8th Capitals player to leave for Europe. Earlier Friday, Perreault's agent broke the news of the move that would be made official next week. Finland's SM-Liiga would be home to the first Capitals player this season.

A question has been answered in the re-signing of defenseman John Carlson to a 6 year $23.8 million deal that fans wondered would happen or not this offseason. With rumors flying around that he may sign elsewhere, this has put the anxiety to rest. Your favorite Hadeed Carpet commercial spokesman (next to Boudreau) extended his contract today with the Washington Capitals in what will be an extended contract for the defenseman. Per the Capitals press release, Carlson will earn $3.8 million in 2012-13 and $4 million per year from the 2013-14 season through 2017-18. Troy Brouwer will be staying in DC for 3 more years with the Washington Capitals handing him a 3 year $11 million contract extension. Last year, his first year as a Capital, the right wing netted 18 goals and 15 assists along with 61 penalty minutes in 82 games being only one of 6 players to have appeared in all regular season games. Troy was set to become a UFA after this upcoming season, but with this new contract, he will be set until the end of the 2015-16 season.
