A few days ago, Matt Hendricks’ nose was black, blue, purple and puffy, but now it is beginning to fade to a slightly yellowish tone. It is certainly not unusual to see Hendricks boasting a palette of bruises, and cuts on his war-torn yet youthful face. Read more here.

It all starts with a diamond chip being dragged slowly across the stone of a cutting wheel. That wheel is then drawn down the length of a steel blade, creating a groove, or a hollow. This creates two distinctive edges, one outside, and one inside. This is what makes skating possible. These two edges allow players to weave in and out of defenders, come to an abrupt stop, and spray snow shavings into the face of a goalie before finally putting the puck in the back of the net. Joel Ward, even though he isn’t from Maryland, has followed the Baltimore Ravens for quite some time. How does a guy from Toronto become a fan of a team from a city he’s never visited? “I was a big Ray Lewis fan,” said Ward. “Forever.” Ward said what attracted him to the Ravens was their defensive style of play, reminiscent of his own on the ice. “I consider myself a defensive-style forward and I took a liking right away to their defense and the way they play over the years,” Ward said, “and I just kind of followed them more and more.”

It was a dark day during the lockout that we finally made our way to Kettler. It was to take in an event that was sure to brighten the days of those that attended during a time when NHL hockey was an uncertainty. As reported before, John Carlson as well as a bunch of other Capitals that happened to be in town, took park in a scrimmage against local college kids that were in town as well for winter break. What some who attended did not realize, was this event was put together by a skating coach that had been working with a few of the guys during the lockout. Meet Wendy Marco.
